Job Summary The Legal Administrative Assistant III plays a critical role in supporting the legal team by managing attorney insurance, legal requests for records, and reporting/tracking medical record information breaches. This position requires a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and discretion due to the sensitive nature of the information handled. The Legal Administrative Assistant III works closely with attorneys, courts, and patients to efficiently and effectively resolve release of information requests. This role involves daily and scheduled functions utilizing various health information systems, requiring the ability to review, analyze, and make sound decisions regarding the appropriate release of protected health information (PHI).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage attorney insurance, including applications, renewals, and claims.
Process and fulfill legal requests for medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
Report and track breaches in medical record information, following established procedures and protocols.
Serve as a primary point of contact for attorneys, courts, and patients regarding release of information requests.
Review, analyze, and make decisions regarding the appropriate release of protected health information (PHI), balancing legal requirements with patient rights.
Utilize various health information systems to retrieve, process, and disseminate medical records.
Maintain accurate records of all legal requests and releases of information.
Collaborate with other departments and personnel to ensure timely and accurate responses to legal requests.
Stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to medical record release and privacy.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $29.03 - $41.55 (Hourly Rate).
Completion of Health Information Management course including Legal Aspects of Medical Records
Completion of Medical Terminology course
Two years’ experience with legal record review and release of information
High school graduation
Knowledge of California, Federal and HIPAA regulations
General PC knowledge, and working knowledge of EPIC, Microsoft, 3M
Aptitude for technical perception and analysis of information in different systems
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of HIMS (Medical Records) experience in a hospital setting.
Database knowledge and experience.
License/Certification
Certification :RHIT
